Description

Puff puff is a popular West African snack, including Cameroon. These sweet, fluffy deep-fried dough balls are perfect for breakfast or as a snack.

Ingredients

  • 3 cups all-purpose flour
  • 1/2 cup sugar
  • 1 tablespoon active dry yeast
  • 1/2 teaspoon salt
  • 1/2 teaspoon nutmeg
  • 1 1/2 cups warm water
  • Vegetable oil for frying

Instructions

Mix yeast with warm water and a pinch of sugar. Let it foam for 5 minutes.

In a large bowl, combine flour, sugar, salt, and nutmeg.

Add the yeast mixture and mix until smooth.

Cover and let rise for 1-2 hours until doubled.

Heat oil in a deep pot to 350°F (175°C).

Scoop small amounts of batter with your hand or spoon into the hot oil.

Fry until golden brown, turning occasionally.

Drain on paper towels and serve warm.

Cooking Tips

  • Don't make the batter too thick
  • Oil should be hot but not smoking
  • Can add vanilla extract for extra flavor
